Rare fungi found in the Woods

A rare parasitic bolete on its common earthball host

A parasitic bolete (Pseudoboletus parasiticus) fungi was discovered in Ecclesall Woods last week by one of the Rangers. It is apparently quite a rare find.  Parasitic bolete is easily distinguished from other fungi in the Bolete family as it occurs exclusively with the common earthball (Scleroderma citrinum). In this image the earthball is on the left and the bolete is emerging from its right hand side.
